Philosophy: Dr. Michelle Head believes that there are many causes of disease and discomfort, including physical trauma, an imbalanced diet, and probably worst of all, mental & emotional stressors. She has a holistic philosophy of health care, which means she looks at all of these factors in determining the proper treatment plan for her patients.
For example, have you ever noticed that when you are very worried about something, your shoulders tense up? At the same time, your adrenal glands are releasing powerful hormones to prepare you for the “fight or flight” response, so that you can react quickly in a threatening situation. You feel your heart rate increase and your hands turn to ice. This is just one illustration of how the body reacts to physical, chemical, and emotional challenges in an integrated manner. Thus, successful treatments must take into account all three challenges.
In treating her patients, Dr. Head uses a system called Applied Kinesiology to assess the structure and function of the body. This is a method developed in 1964 by Dr. George Goodheart that utilizes manual muscle testing as a way to measure bodily function. She also may use standard blood chemistries and x-rays to gain a full picture of the body’s structure and physiology. Once the cause of the problem is determined, the body’s natural healing ability must be stimulated. Treatments may involve gentle adjustments to the spine and extremities, recommended changes in diet, and suggestions for stress management.
